IS THE G1 PHONE GOOD FOR BUSINESS USE?

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

This has been a big topic of discussion amongst all of us interested in a G1 Phone. Since ditching my Nokia almost 5 years ago, I had until recently been inseperable from my Blackberry. For me, as a business owner who is out of the office frequently and receive a large number of e-mails on a daily basis, the Blackberry was one of those products that makes you wonder how you ever survived without it.

Then, a few months back I got heavily involved with researching the G1 Phone for this website and found myself analysing the main contenders.¬†It’s fair to say, I was researching content for the new G1 Phone and so it was only natural that¬†I would feel a sense of romance for the G1 and wanted¬†so much for it to supersede my Blackberry.

For some reason also, I¬†was becomming¬†increasingly more anti iPhone, possibly because I kept hearing how good it was and in the back of my mind, if I was going to give up my Blackberry for anything, I desperately wanted it to be the G1 Phone because I was so excited about Google’s android platform.

So what happened? Yeah, I got myself the G1 Phone as soon as they hit the shops and I love it. I also got an iPhone and I love that too. My poor old Blackberry, my mobile office that could run my business without requiring any office furniture was now cast aside to the bottom drawer of my desk and has been quickly forgotten.

The verdict? The iPhone really is very good, its incredibly user friendly and looks and feels the business. I’m also used to iTunes also which made this an instant hit with me. The G1 Phone? Although the G1 is not as slick as the iPhone, you need to get over this and look at what is truly exciting about this phone. Google’s android platform promises so much and as much as I’m familiar with iTunes, there’s nothing I use on a daily basis more than google and I can’t help feeling that the promise of this platform has got innovation and gadget lovers holding their breath, just waiting for it’s true potential to be unearthed over the comming months.

So not to get away from the title of this post, “Is the G1 Phone Good For Business Use?” the answer is yes, but there are better. The exact same can be said for the iPhone. The reality is, if all you care about is running your business then the Blackberry is the one for you, but trust me, once getting your hands on¬†the G1 Phone or iPhone you’ll quickly discover that instant e-mail¬†is not so important after all. The web browsers on the G1 Phone and iPhone are also so much better than that of the Blackberry that depending on the business use you need it for, you may well find them more effective for you than the Blackberry.¬†

To sum up, you won’t be throwing out the office furniture after purchasing a G1 phone, but you’ll be more than happy to be sat at your desk playing with the extensive features of this phone for a long time to come. I just can’t wait for the next version to be released.

T-MOBILE G1 WITH GOOGLE

Friday, October 24th, 2008

T-Mobile have said that the T-Mobile G1 Phone will feature a range of exciting applications some of which will already be pre-loaded on your G1 Phone. To me this only means over excitement and confusion, I mean, what do you do when you take your new G1 Phone out of its box? Play with the pre installed apps and get experiment with the android operating system or get straight on the internet and head over to Google’s Android Market, the place wheret customers can find and download innovative applications from games and navigation tools to on-the-go shopping comparisons.

Following T-Mobiles announcement that the G1 Phone will now be released on 30th October 2008 (and not early November as previously expected), we have’nt got long to find out.

Arrgghhh, decisions, decisions!

BUSINESS APPS FOR THE G1 PHONE

Friday, October 24th, 2008

There have been some negative talk about the G1 Phone not being equipped for business users but some clever people at CompanionLink Software have grasped the whole open source idea for the G1 Phone which runs Google’s Android mobile operating system. They have developed a two-way synchronization solution for Microsoft Outlook and Google Android devices.

To get Microsoft Outlook contacts on their Google Android phone, users will need CompanionLink for Google Android. In addition to contacts, the software also synchronizes Microsoft Outlook calendar events, recurring appointments, tasks, and alarms and reminders with Google Android phones. The synchronization of data with the phones occurs wirelessly without any user intervention.

The app isn’t available on Google’s Android Market, but CompanionLink for Google Android is available from the company’s website for $29.95. More information about the solution can be found at companionlink.com/android.

Well done guys.

T-MOBILE G1 PHONE LAUNCHED IN AMERICA

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

ARRRGGHHH! This is the bit where we spit our dummies out¬†(if there are any Americans reading this, we’re refering to¬†pacifiers!). Why are we always second in line?¬†I can only relate the way I’m feeling as to¬†standing in the cold and looking through a window at a family laughing and joking whilst they¬†eat a big roast dinner!

Anyway… San Francisco was the first location to start selling the T-Mobile G1 Phone with Google’s Android mobile operating system. The G1 Phone¬†is currently only available in the 95 cities that have T-Mobile‚Äôs¬†3G service. The suggested retail price is $399.99, but don’t don’t panic, not that you should your probably British and waiting like the rest of the world, there is an instant discount of -$220 making the final cost of the G1 phone $179, with obvious price plan attached. If¬†you are lucky enough to be elegible for one you must hurry it does state on the G1 Phone website that there is an¬†’extremely limited supply’.

So I’m afraid there’s not much more to say other than, chin up, chest out and keep on marching and we’ll be home in time for tea! Roll on 30th October – 8 days to go!

Oh, and don’t forget we get our G1 Phones¬†for FREE!

GOOGLE PHONE

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Since Google announced the birth of Android back in November 2007 Android News have been very suspicious of its true heritage due to his instant rise to fame. We therefore decided to trace back android’s ancestry only to reveal a host of familiar characters. We are slowly piecing back android’s bloodline but please feel free to comment on anyone who you may think is related!

Want to join in more android antics come and join our facebook group “We want the new Google phone” which was created by Ray Specs, thanks Ray!

UK RELEASE DATE FOR G1 PHONE

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

T-Mobile’s new G1 Phone, the very first phone to operate on the much coveted Android Platform from Google is the talk of town, in fact lets rephrase that, it’s the talk of the globe! We all want one, but when can we get our hands on the G1 phone in the UK?

Everywhere we look there are news article galore about the G1 this and the G1 that, but why is it that everthing we read is always aimed at the US market? Ok so when it comes to release dates, we’re used to playing second fiddle to our friends across the atlantic, but that’s not the problem. It’s not that we need to know we can get a G1 before the US, we simply want to know when we can get one at all.

Well you may have seen already that pre orders for the G1 in the US have been and gone before many new about it, and those lucky enough to have got their order in can expect delivery on October 22. So far the only promises we have had for a UK release date for the G1 Phone is early November 2008, but we’ve heard from T-Mobile that we can expect a pre order window for the G1 phone to open in mid October.

Considering how quickly the US pre order window closed after opening, we’d suggest all of us who want to get our hands on the G1 phone on the day it gets released in the UK, and that is all of us, get our pre orders in the minute we see that window open.

Rest assured, the moment we hear T-Mobile are accepting pre orders for the G1, we will be covering it all over this website, and we’re quietly confident that will be the day that we get an official UK release date for the G1 phone.

G1 PHONE ACCESSORIES

Monday, October 13th, 2008

We’ve all seen the previews of the G1 phone but we haven’t seen or heard very much about any G1 phone accessories. We want to hear your thoughts on accessories you would like to see available to the G1 Phone. Could there possibly be any accessories launched to rival the excitement surrounding the G1 phone itself?¬†Being the first phone to operate on the Google Android Platform, we’re expecting great things, and that includes exciting and original accessories for the G1 phone.

Submit your ideas for exciting and original G1 phone accessories here.
